Hotel, restaurant and catering field salaries

The collective agreement of the hotel, restaurant and catering field is applied by

  • employers associated with the Finnish Hotel and Restaurant Association (FHR), and
  • other employers associated with the hotel, restaurant and catering field, as well as with comparable or closely related activities.

The determination of the employee’s tariff salary in accordance with the collective agreement is influenced by their working area (locality cost-of-living category), occupational title and duration of employment.

These can be used to determine a monthly salary for full-time employees and an hourly salary for part-time employees. An employee’s salary is also affected by various allowances, e.g., night, Sunday and employer-appointed substitute worker allowances.

Typical occupational titles in the field include the following, among others: cook, waiter/waitress, reception worker. Not all employee groups have specified tariff salaries. With respect to these employees, other regulations of the trade union contract become applicable, but the basic salary is agreed on by the employer and employee.

Salaries listed in the salary schedule are minimum wages and they can be raised according to the employee’s expertise, working efficiency, diligence, language skills and previous experience in the field, etc.
